last boring blog-related post for a while

I think I have finally gotten things the way I like them over here.  What do you think about the new green color scheme? I think it is fantastic and springy!  My only regret is that I can no longer use the great picture of the pink Royal typewriter.

I also wanted to point out that I have a little place on the sidebar now for “asides,” a.k.a. teeny tiny posts in their own special category.  If you read this through an RSS reader they should show up just like the normal posts, but if not, you’ll just have to check the sidebar when you stop by. I think they are pretty cool.

Also, plugins! How cool are plugins? Very.  I got the statcounter one (which works even better than statcounter did on the old site — this way I can use the regular javascript version instead of the weaker html-only version, thus the better for me to spy with) and the mobile dashboard one.  Now, hypothetically, I could post from my phone during class while my students are busy taking a punishingly difficult final exam.  Just hypothetically, of course.

Naturally, in typical Vague fashion, I managed to do all this about an hour before WordPress released the new 2.5 version, which means I will have to upgrade soon enough.  Oh well, we will worry about that tomorrow, or, um next year.

Also, at some point in the future, I am going to try to figure out how to install a separate blog on a subdomain, ’cause I got other plans in the works.  I briefly looked into it, but got dizzy reading about  things like MySQL databases, and gave up.  Seriously: my computer knowledge is so basic it’s embarrassing.  Every time I try to do something like this, it takes hours of searching around the WordPress documentation, desperate googling, etc.  It’s times like these that I wish I had  a really nerdy boyfriend, or something.  Actually it doesn’t even need to be a boyfriend. A friend would do, too — just someone who knew about the mysteries of databases and also maybe would take out the trash and lift heavy things for me.

Anyway, tomorrow I have, like, 40 essays to grade, so I am sure we’ll be back to the normal content soon:  I’ll have plenty of bad grammar, suspect sentences, dubious logic, and downright pedestrian ideas with which to entertain you.

  1. MySql isn’t basic, so don’t feel bad. If you need help though, and if I have time, drop me a note. I do that kind of shit for a living to further compensate for the crappy stipend I get for teaching.

  2. O – thanks for the offer! I almost had to take you up on it, but I figured it out. I think WP is now my bitch!

S – Sadly, I have learned from my students that no matter how inconspicuously a person thinks she is texting, the whole world can see it. Thus, I think I had better keep my hands off the phone in class!
