I woke up this morning and went for a run in the unseasonably warm and humid air. (Side note: Alabama weather, please get your shit together!) It was made all the more pleasant by the smells emanating from every single garbage can in the neighborhood. Except mine. That’s right, I went for a run on garbage day, which is NEVER advisable, and I did not even have the satisfaction of knowing my own garbage was out there, because we plumb forgot to put it out last night.
The rest of the morning and early afternoon was spent getting a start on my grading, which I desperately wish I did not have to do over the Thanksgiving break, but I do, and I have no one to blame but myself. So that happened, and it was painful and I do not want to talk about it.
This evening, CW and I spent a few hours at a wine-and-cheese party at a friend’s house, which was absolutely lovely. Just a lot of wine, a lot of cheese, and a lot of nice people and good conversation. Delicious.
I mean. If you have to have a day that you think is Day 29, and it turns out to be Day 1, which is what happened late last night, the best thing that can happen is to have a wine and cheese party scheduled for the next day. Because if you have to live through yet another Day 1, there may as well be wine.
In other news, I am taking questions for blog posts! It’s not always easy to think of a topic every day, and the month is dwindling down and so are my immediate ideas. Is there something you would like to know about me? Or do you have something you’d like me to opine on? Please just ask and I will write. I am at your command. Leave a comment or tweet @ravelingout.
My friend Brandon asked me about my opinion on the end of Harry Potter, so that’s going to be a upcoming post (maybe tomorrow). Anything you want to read? Let me know!
One of my favorite random questions is: When you were a kid, did you like your name? How has that changed (or not) as you got older?
I am also curious: How do you balance reading for work/teaching versus pleasure? Do you get to teach material you’d read for fun?
