13 Weeks: Hello, Babies!

Hello! I’m 13 weeks pregnant.

With twins. Yes. We’ve gotten through the first trimester and told our families, friends, and employer, so it’s time to go public here as well.

The Babies are the Size of: A couple of jalapeños, according to one app, or peaches, according to the other one. So once again the app content creators cannot agree on a a fruit. That’s okay; I like both.

How I’m Doing: I am doing really well. The first trimester has been really kind to me, and I’m just hoping that the second continues that trend. I certainly wouldn’t mind feeling the resurgence of energy that everyone says you get at this time. Waiting for that to happen any time now. Otherwise, no real complaints.

Other News: We had our first trimester screening this week at an MFM practice with a very fancy ultrasound. They were checking the babies’ anatomy, which is all developing correctly and in the right places, and looking for any warning signs of chromosomal problems — everything looked “perfect” and “beautiful,” in the words of the staff who went over the results with us, so this is great news. We were hoping they might be able to tell the sexes, but the results there weren’t 100% conclusive, so we only got their best guess. (I’ll withhold that info until we feel more confident about their guesses.)

Ultrasound: The ultrasound was really, really awesome. The tech took her time looking at each little anatomical detail she needed to check, so we got to get a good look at both babies, including their hearts, stomachs, bladders, hands, feet, bones in the arms and legs, and even their developing brains. It was amazing.

Baby A was squirming and jumping all around and really gave the tech a hard time when it came to recording the heartbeat, but eventually calmed down just long enough. Baby B was quite mellow and chill the whole time, patiently sitting in just the right position for the tech to get all the measurements. I wonder whether those tendencies will remain the same once they’re born — will we have one restless squirming baby and one contemplative, calm baby? We’ll see.

Here’s a look at their profiles:

Baby B has his/her little hand right next to the face, can you tell?

I might be biased, but I think they’re pretty adorable already.

    1. Oh, right! I had forgotten that. Clearly a good sign 🙂

Also, re the December due date thing, it’s very likely they could come right around my birthday — and then we’ll have a house with three Sagittarians in it, for whatever that’s worth.

  2. Also, just thinking how they’ll be born around your birthday… big party month, I guess! Congratulations again!
